The New
York State Outdoor Guides Association will host the 2008 Winter Rendezvous March 13-16, 2008 at the unique and historic Hulbert
House in Boonville,
NY. Boonville is a quaint village
located between the western Adirondacks and the Tug Hill Plateau, about 30 miles north of Utica
on NYS Route 12. The center of activities for the event will be the Hulbert House,
with most lodging and some functions being held at other nearby facilities.
The Rendezvous
Committee has planned a full schedule of events, including guides’ training, certification and licensing exams, educational
seminars, award ceremonies and social events. Current guides can update certifications,
refresh skills and renew friendships, while aspiring guides can obtain required certifications, take the NYSDEC guides’
exam and mingle with working guides, all at one convenient location.
Spouses
and guests may enjoy late winter sports, such as snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, check out local shops and antique stores
or participate in a specially arranged workshop on Yoga and massage, led by local guide and licensed massage therapist Vickie
Thompson. Her studio, Hearts
Ease Center for Healing Arts,
is located next door to the Hulbert House.
We encourage
attendees to contribute a door prize for the annual raffle to be held at the banquet on Saturday evening. This event is always a highlight of the evening and is a fund raiser for the Association.
We certainly
hope you will be able to join us for this important meeting of guides and aspiring guides.
Please remember that this is snow country, with some of the highest yearly accumulations of snow in the East. Prepare yourself and your vehicle for possible late winter, lake effect snows. Make your lodging reservations early, as forecasts of good snow can quickly fill all
available rooms with snowmobilers and skiers.
